Nick Archer | Winters Tale – Animation/Installation

Nick Archer was invited to make a piece of work in response to the theme of Winter/Christmas as part of our annual event ‘Christmas Bizarre’. Nick spent the last six months working on this project, slowly recreating the process of making a painting with the help of animator Rebecca Archer.

Thirty local artists and crafts people participated, making it the liveliest and most controversial Christmas craft fair in the area.
Gigspanner, 26 November 2010

Featuring internationally acclaimed playwrite Mark Ravenhill in his latest short work ‘The Experiment’. The day included storytelling for families, rap workshops for children, performance poetry workshops for adults, an open mic session and a performance by Simon Mole.

BBC Award-winning Sam Carter played a dynamic set as part of Rye Festival. One audience member commented on facebook after the gig that she ‘wishes Sam Carter could sing me to sleep every night‘.
Conscious Oil Exhibition
Emily Johns and Anne Rouse, 10 – 12 September 2010
Sussex has its place in oil history alongside Texas and Arabia. The exhibition explored the intricate relationship between history, language and the geosphere through the consciousness of Oil itself. Workshops and talks accompanied the exhibition of huge linocuts by Emily Johns and poem by Anne Rouse.
Smalls, Jenny Edbrooke

Live artist Jenny Edbrooke gave the first public performance of Smalls, her most ambitious project to date. Funny, surprising and inspiring, she takes us on a creative adventure into the history, psychology and physiology of underwear.
Artist in Residence:
Recent graduate, Jacqueline, was our artist in residence through September. Representational painter with a preoccupation with the figure as a means of expression.
Summer Aerial Workshops
7, 14 and 21st August 2010
A short series of workshops for all levels of experience. Areas covered were; Geometric Shapes, Music and Movement and Drama through Movement. With support from Active Rother.
The Rapdramatic, 2nd – 6th August 2010
For one week only, young people worked alongside an outstanding team of professional artists to create and produce a brand new show including a full-scale live performance on Friday. They worked with AudioActive’s rap maestro Jon Clark, or street dance impresario Makoto. Set design involved street art with Luke Brabants, film and digital projections were with Alice Ross. Vocals and sound technology with Ollie Finn provided the soundtrack, and production management was headed up by Sound engineer Taff from Illuminate Design.
Bee and Nooshi kindly took up the challenge to transform the rather dull space outside our auditorium with a mural. With just a few days work, they produced this Manga inspired piece featuring (nearly) everyone from the school, not least the infamous dogs!
Felt Hat Making Workshop

Hat making master class with felt maker Sue Johnson. Day long workshop produced excellent results, with everyone coming away with at least one professional standard hat of their own design.
Graphic Art Holiday Workshop
1st to 3rd June
Young people worked with Julian Hanshaw (who’s new works were featured in Rye Art Gallery’s exhibition ‘Paper|Art|See’) to create their own, ready to frame, large artwork.
