Highlights of events 2014


Tuesday 11 March 2014: PechaKucha Night Rye #3
the third installment of our fantastic PechaKucha Night. Free for all to attend, fresh ideas and great laughs guaranteed.



1 – 27 May 2014: &c. [dark matters]
The innaugral exhibition for 48:Eight Gallery at The Rye Creative Centre brought together 6 artists from 4 countries of disciplines including video, photography and painting.



Tuesday 24 June 2014: Annual Symposium This Migration
This year’s event focused on issues within Migrations. With artworks from a number of local artists and talks and discussions from guest lecturers, this years event examined the role migration plays within the arts and the greater realm of our everyday lives.


LLLcopySaturday 26 July 2014: Made In East Sussex – a live literature scratch day
LLL Productions presented extracts of a number of live literature pieces as work-in-progress. Attendees had a chance to see these emerging performances at an early stage of development and share their comments and give feedback as part of the process of honing and refining the ideas.


Friday 19th & Saturday 20th September 2014: Open Studios Over 30 professional artists from across a wide spectrum of disciplines opened the doors to their creative spaces.  Over 290 visitors stepped into the worlds of print makers, painters, illustrators, textile artists, sculptors, live artists, designers, and photographers.


                                                                                                                  Monday 15th – Friday 26th September 2014: Open Studios        An exhibition of new works by resident artists of The Rye Creative Centre.



Saturday 20th September 2014: Artist Talk                        Preserving The Past For The Future – from world heritage to decorative antiques.
An artist talk by Chris Cleere, Conservation Consultant.



Saturday 27th September 2014: Artist Talks                    Abstracting the Landscape – The Role of Abstraction in Photography; An artist talk by Caroline Fraser, Photographer

Drawing On Photography – Corot, Seago and Magic Moments
An artist talk by Jonathan Hills, Photographer.


Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th 2014: Feast of Delights
Feast of Delights entered its sixth year with a dynamic selection of prints, paintings, jewellery, textiles, photographs, ceramics, art-boxes and metal work from a range of designers and makers.

With the new addition of a Food Hall displaying delectable treats from local producers, this year’s event brought in over 500 visitors over the weekend. Wooden Reindeer were positioned throughout the town to guide visitors to The School.  Guests stepped through the frosted forest and enjoyed festive entertainment, a pop up cafe and stalls of gifts and treasures.

The Resident Artists also displayed a selection of original postcard sized works.

2012/2013 highlights this way
