‘Assembly’ saw hundreds of art lovers cross the bridge to explore the exhibition

The opening night of 'Assembly', the Contemporary British Painting exhibition at Rye Creative Centre, was a resounding success. Hundreds of art lovers crossed the bridge to explore our exquisite venue and the extensive collection of artworks displayed.

This exhibition features a diverse group of artists from the Contemporary British Painting collective, representing regions across the UK and Ireland, along with guest artists from Rye and surrounding counties. Their works collectively offer a rich tapestry of artistic styles and expressions.

The event kicked off at 6 PM at 'The Old Gym', a beautifully transformed former school gymnasium now serving as an ideal gallery and theatre space. The atmosphere was lively with guests enjoying refreshments and absorbing the art, highlighted by inspiring speeches from Paula MacArthur, a resident artist and participant in the exhibition, who worked tirelessly organising and curating the exhibition, and Dr. Julian Day, Art Director of Rye Art Gallery.

The exhibition will continue to welcome visitors from Thursday to Sunday until May 18. Make sure to seize the opportunity to experience this vibrant showcase.

Additionally, tonight (May 10) from 5 PM to 8 PM, and tomorrow (May 11) from 10 AM to 4 PM, the New Road Artists will host an Open Studio event. This is a unique chance to see the artists in their creative spaces and gain insight into their artistic processes.

Both events offer free parking and free admission. During Open Studios on Saturday 11 May, local coffeeshop, Ground Up, will be providing tasty drinks and snacks too - what's more to like!
