Discover a wide variety of exciting art and music classes and workshops happening in May 2024 at Rye Creative Centre - the hub of creativity in Rye, East Sussex.


1. Life Drawing Classes with Nick Archer

Nick Archer, one of our long-standing studio holders at Rye Creative Centre, hosts several drawing classes in our Art Room, tutored and untutored, for people of all abilities. Nick’s new block of classes starts on 24th April 2024 and runs for six weeks. 2. Monthly Photopolymer Etching Workshops with Paula MacArthur

Paula Macarthur, another long-standing studio holder at Rye Creative Centre, is leading photopolymer etching workshops once a month in our print room. These friendly one-day workshops are suitable for absolute beginners through to experienced printmakers who’d like to learn a new technique. 3. Portrait Painting Classes with Nick Archer

This class, run again by Nick Archer, is designed for those with some drawing experience but who want to develop looking at the figure using paint. Nick will focus his teaching on colour mixing, structure and composition and will share images of other painters to help illustrate his teaching. 4. Landscape Painting in Oils with Georgie Watson: Countryside

Rye Creative Centre studio holder, Georgie Watson, will be running two oil painting workshops in May for anyone interested in building their confidence in oils - this one in particular focused on Countryside as the subject. 6. Clay Portrait & Figure Modelling Classes by Stephanie Rubin

Rye Creative Centre studio holder, Stephanie Rubin, will be running yet another clay portrait and figure modelling class with life model for people of all abilities. 7. Marsh Choir - Rock, Pop & Soul Community Choir

Your choir master, Carly Bryant, is a professional singer and musician who in the last decade has performed extensively in the USA, South America, Australia and Europe. Marsh Choir is a network of rock/pop & soul community choirs that take place at different time of the week in Lydd, Dymchurch, St Mary's Bay, Hythe and Rye! 8. The Music Well - Children’s Singing Club

The club a wide range of songs, some in unison and some with harmony, and there are opportunities for solos or diets too. We have lots of fun singing together! Come and join this free club where new members are warmly welcomed aged 5 years old upwards and into secondary school. 9. Cyanotype Workshop by Claire Shoosmith

Join Claire to learn about the art of Cyanotype printing and create your own sun-print images on watercolour paper, found ephemera and porcelain in this 4 hour workshop. We'll explore the history of cyanotypes, how artists have used the medium and how to make the best prints using a variety of source material. 10. An Introduction to Printmaking with Nick Archer

Monoprint is where you paint onto a smooth printing plate and then print this onto paper creating ‘one off’ prints. Dry point is where you scratch into a plate using a sharp tool and then print the plate on the press. Nick will be showing you the process of making a print using these techniques and help you to develop your visual ideas.
