This term we will be looking at the whole figure in preparation to working from observation in the studio when permitted. Initially you will be using masterpiece paintings as reference. I will ask you to select a masterpiece from a selection I have made for you to do a copy from such as the examples below by Ingres and Uglow.

Having done a term of two focusing on the head you should now have some familiarity with the structure of the head, but when talking the whole figure other elements such as hands and feet come into focus so we will have a workshop which analyses these and how simplifying the shapes can help. As the term develops I will look into getting some photographic reference of a clothed model for you to work from for a second painting later in the term.
