The Bridgepoint Ensemble, a collection of some of the finest instrumentalists in the country, is coming together in Rye once again this November, for a performance of Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings.
The players will first divide up into two string quartets, one led by Sarah Sexton, the other by Beatrice Philips to play, respectively, an early Haydn quartet and Beethoven’s first string quartet. In the second half, the musicians will unite for the miraculous octet that that Mendelssohn wrote at the age of sixteen. It is frankly incomprehensible, how a work of such maturity, brilliance and scope could have been written by one so young.

Violas: Judith Busbridge and Ian Rathbone
Cellos: Hannah Sloane and Sarah McMahon
