Artur Pizarro and Stephen Coombs are both individually celebrated pianists. Together, their partnership has thrilled and delighted audiences and critics through a blend of brilliant virtuosity, subtle lyricism and unquenchable and infectious joy in playing.
2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of the French composer, Camille Saint-Saëns. In the first half of their recital for Rye Arts Festival, Pizarro and Coombs will be featuring three of Saint-Saëns’ most innovative and virtuosic works - Polonaise, Caprice Arabe and Scherzo - together with Debussy’s own two-piano version of Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, an atmospheric and sensual masterpiece.
The recital will conclude with a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. Though more often heard in the orchestral version, Rachmaninoff’s original two-piano score remains one of the most powerful, demanding and exciting works in the whole piano repertoire.
This event is part of the Rye Arts Festival’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
