Keith Kettle

“When I speak of design, I refer to scale, industrial, an imbalance, a person or object, something that does not belong. What influences me is science fiction art, comics and the surrealists. Also, individuals I love Van Gogh and Max Ernst.” Keith Kettle.

As an artist I’ve never fitted in with any group or style, it was never intentional, but I feel comfortable, not belonging. As a painter, I prefer painting images or subjects that stand out by design or are odd. When I speak of design, I refer to scale, industrial, an imbalance, a person or object, or something that does not belong.

“Another influence on me as an artist is film. The first being Tony Hancock in ‘The Rebel’, you have to see it to understand it. The second Kirk Douglas in ‘Lust for Life’ playing van Gogh. Both films display a passion, a desire, beyond reason. That really explains art in my opinion, it has no reason that can be explained, you just do it. I never tire copying van Gogh's work, you learn something every time.”
