Tara Macdonald - Studio 206a
Tara Macdonald’s career began in horticulture and garden design, training and working at the RHS Gardens Wisley and Great Dixter House and Garden, under the indomitable Christopher Lloyd. She has also worked in many successful local gardens, her own garden being featured in Country Homes and Interiors. This immersion in floral abundance continues to influence the aesthetic of her work.
She is especially interested in the relationships between people and plants and the way we experience nature and gardens. This can be profoundly emotional and meaningful and this is reflected in her practice.
Her approach is to use natural materials and processes where possible in her work. This involves seasonal gathering from her own garden and local environment. She has particular interest in natural dyeing, basketry and all manner of knotting including macrame. Her materials where possible are natural, recycled and biodegradable.
As well as her artistic practice, developed during the completion of the Designer Maker BA, she runs a small business, ‘Secret Garden’. This sells naturally dyed products and macrame pieces. She also happily runs workshops in these subjects.
