Stephanie Rubin - Studio 213
Running parallel to her career as a commercial sculptor Stephanie’s personal work concentrates on traditional themes in art, portraiture and landscape. She seeks to push the boundaries in both.
Rubin has a fundamental interest in human identity and is currently exploring how to portray an individual in clay with the same energy that a photographer would take with a snapshot.
A fellow artist once said what is evident in Stephanie’s portraits is her compassion towards her sitters.
Stephanie has produced series of landscapes likened to 3D architectural models and now is turning to oil paint on canvas as a new point of exploration. Drawing plays an integral part of her practice displaying an understanding of structure, proportion and balance - the explanation often given to sculptors’ drawings.
Rubin completed her BA at City & Guilds of London Art School in 1993. She offers workshops in portrait modelling, sculpture technique, drawing and undertakes commissions. She exhibits internationally and her commissions are held in private collections.
