The description
In this workshop we will be studying all aspects of the sea from the light and shadows cast on the water from above to the breaking waves and reflections cast on the sand at the waters edge. There will be a focus on colour mixing and brushwork techniques.
The workshop will be run in the Art Room at Rye Creative Centre where there is lots of lovely, natural light.
Materials for the day
You will need to bring your own paints, palette, brushes and solvents of which I will supply a list below if you do not already have them. There will be easels provided and I will supply a small 10”x 8 board for morning exercises but you may want a larger one for your final painting depending on your experience and the size you like to work on. I recommend no larger than 12”x16” either a panel or a canvas to work on.
The plan for the day
In the morning we will break down the different aspects of our sea /beach scene making sketches and colour studies of the sea at the horizon in relation to the sky.
After the coffee break you will start developing your own painting and that will continue throughout the afternoon while I demo colour mixing for sea, how to tackle waves and brushwork techniques.
You reference needs to be a beach scene and can include distant figures a headland or harbour point but the sea needs to be the focus for this exercise.
Cost
£75 for the day
