The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing and the garden is bursting into colour. Why not join natural dyer Tara Macdonald to use some of this gorgeous colour to create your own garden flower printed scarf? There are so many plants and flowers that yield incredible colour and have been used for centuries to dye our textiles. Many garden flowers and leaves give up their colour and can be used to give prints and marks onto fabric. Bundle dyeing uses a simple steaming process to extract the colour and is the perfect way to introduce yourself to the fascinating craft of natural dyeing.
During this workshop you will be introduced to the basics of natural dyeing and the preparation of fabrics. You will then create your own beautiful botanically dyed silk or organic cotton scarf, using various flowers, leaves and extracts. Tara will be bringing a selection of flowers from her garden as well as botanical extracts and dried materials. You would be welcome to bring along any flowers from your own garden to try them out. Your beautiful scarf is the perfect treat for yourself or gift for a loved one. This workshop is suitable for children over 8 years if supervised.
Tara began her career as a horticulturalist and garden designer. Her fascination with plants and crafts led her to develop her practice in botanical dyeing. She loves to use both gathered plants and those she grows in her garden in her work.
