Nicola Hill - Studio 103
Within her practice as an artist, Nicola observes the natural world. A country girl at heart, her work focuses on birdlife, the woodland that she manages and her local landscape. Drawing, painting and printmaking all play a part in the joy of her mark-making. She is particularly interested in discovering techniques and applications in her creative process.
Following a degree in Ceramics at Middlesex, Nicola received a Crafts Council setting up grant and she set up a shared studio for six artists in a refurbished railway arch in Bow, this continues today. As well as regular exhibitions they took part in the annual Whitechapel open studios. Nicola worked at the Crafts Council to support her practice (V&A shop, Crafts magazine and Exhibitions department). Taking a City and Guilds course enabled her to teach adults in Hackney and Croydon. Twenty years ago she started an Interior photo agency with her sister, which still keeps her busy. Digitisation enabled a move to Rye.
Returning to Sussex rekindled her creativity, starting with Nick Archer’s life drawing class. From a shared studio at the Rye Creative Centre she practices part-time.
Nicola is a New Road Artist and is interested in building a relationship with a gallery for exhibition opportunities and mentoring.
