Beverley Thornley - Studio 216e
Place, land and environment are key influences on Beverley’s artistic practice. Underpinning her approach is a personal connection to specific places and a desire to be outside, getting her hands dirty. Much of her work uses earthy materials – rocks, pigments, rubble – gathered from the land. Such ordinary stuff is ubiquitous but unique to where it is found.
In her studio, she explores and collaborates with this inanimate stuff and uses a range of media - land art, drawings, paintings, prints, installation – to encourage it to reveal its unique character and origins. Engaging the viewer’s curiosity in the variety and vibrancy of natural materials and their potential to convey a sense of land and place is important to her.
‘I want to provoke an interest in the stuff beneath our feet and encourage a connection to everyday environments. ‘
