The Bridgepoint Ensemble with Matthew Sharp

  • Rye Creative Centre New Rd England, TN31 7LT United Kingdom (map)

The Bridgepoint Ensemble is joined by 'The Renaissance Man of classical music' (Classical Music Magazine), Matthew Sharp, for an eclectic evening, demonstrating his versatility and all-round musicianship. In the first half of the concert, Matthew will sing with the string quartet accompanying him in Schubert songs, Mozart arias and a little Jaques Brel.

In the second half, Matthew will take his cello and join the quartet for a performance of the piece that Artur Rubinstein referred to as being a depiction “of the entrance to heaven”; Schubert’s Quintet for Strings. The work is widely regarded as being one of the pinnacles of the western classical music canon.

This performance is part of Rye Creative Centre’s weekend of music events aimed at establishing Rye’s newest venue as a cultural hub, with musical activity at its heart. In association with Bridgepoint Music and East Sussex Music the weekend will provide opportunities for community music-making, string instrument taster sessions, workshops, a mass sing-along and round off with a spectacular day of concerts!
